Feliz Dia de la Madre! Today is Mothers Day in Spain.
Did you know that both Mothers Day and Fathers Day in Spain are public holidays? Dia de Madre is always celebrated on the first Sunday in May.

Mothers Day in Spain is celebrated in pretty much the same way that the rest of the world celebrates this day. There are flowers, chocolates and presents given, celebrations with family and friends. The schools also encourage the children to make handmade gifts and cards for this special day too.

Good morning and happy Sabado! Personally, we think that any day of the week would be a very good day to be in Madrid, but today would be extra special…
Today is the ‘Fiesta de la Comunidad de Madrid’ or ‘Day of Madrid.’ The residents of Madrid have a holiday today, and will be spending the day celebrating their beautiful city. This day marks the anniversary of an uprising from the people of Madrid, against French Troops in 1808.

So, today many businesses are closed and public transport schedules will be reduced, as the people of Madrid come together to spend time celebrating their wonderful city and enjoying the bank holiday weekend.

Hola! Buenos noches. Friday night is here, and it is Bank Holiday weekend. Did you know that it is also a Bank Holiday weekend in Spain too? Today is Labour Day in Spain, a celebration of Spain’s economic achievements for workers all over the country.
Our friends over there will have been resting today, and schools have been closed too, so there will have been plenty of time spent with family and friends at the beach, dining in restaurants or just enjoying a day free of work. What better way to spend a Friday in the sun?
