Although traditionally known as a golfer’s paradise, Villamartin is a location in Spain that has so much more to offer.
Accessibility – If your flight lands at either Alicante or Murcia San Javier airport you can be in Villamartin in just 30 -40 minutes by car.

The Area – Villamartin is built around one of the area’s most prestigious golf courses, Campo de Golf Villamartin, it is also close to Las Ramblas, Campoamor and Las Colinas golf courses too. This is an area that caters for all, with supermarkets, restaurants, bars, doctors, shops, a number of marinas, and more. La Zenia Boulevard is also close by; this is the biggest shopping centre of the province of Alicante, providing fashion shops, restaurants and entertainment.
There are schools, both international and state, to facilitate the ever increasing community in the location. The beautiful blue flag beaches of La Zenia and Playa Flamenca are close too.
The Weather – Well, Villamartin has on average 320 days of sunshine a year, and an average temperature of 20 oC. In the summer, the temperature in the day can climb up to 35oC, but the low humidity means that the heat isn’t unbearable. The winter months of December, January and February are usually sunny and clear, although a little cool in the evenings until the spring arrives.

The Property – The properties in Villamartin are available at great value and in built in traditional, Mediterranean style. There are also a number of new build opportunities as demand for property in this area increases. This is also a great location for rental gains from a property, with holiday makers and golfers travelling to the area all year round.
We have picked our top 5 properties across Villamartin for you to take a look at, all properties are under £100,000 *calculated at exchange rate of circa 1.30 to £1, any exchange rate fluctuation will change the sterling price* –

If you love Spain, then chances are you’re going to love the food too, especially tapas. Here at Your Place in Spain we can’t get enough of the little appetizers and bite size dishes of delicious, traditional Spanish delicacies.
So, Tapas Tuesday gives us a very good excuse to look at some of our favourite tapas, tell you all about how they’re made, different versions of the dish and how you can make it yourself.
This week, for our very first ‘Tapas Tuesday’ we’re looking at the very popular Tortilla española…
You’ll probably find this particular dish in almost every Spanish tapas bar you walk in to, it’s an easy recipe and a delicious one too.
The original recipe contains just eggs, potatoes, onions and salt and pepper, but as you go from town to town in Spain you will find that there can be many additions to the omelette, changing the taste and bringing in new flavours, and it is always a tasty treat.
Chorizo, green peppers, tomatoes and garlic are just a few additions that can be made to this dish, and many enjoy it in Spain with bread and olive oil, mayonnaise, and plenty other tapas dishes to go alongside it too.
The historical sources of this particular recipe are not known, but it is a firm favourite of the Spanish, and you will usually find it a very reasonable price too. It is traditionally served chopped into bite size pieces on a cocktail stick, but you can also get it sliced too, and it can be enjoyed hot or cold.

Spanish Omelette served with Manchego and Serrano Ham
Fancy having a go at making this yourself? Well here’s a recipe that I use when cooking a Spanish omelette, I like to add some Chorizo to give it a bit of extra flavour. If you want to add any other ingredients in to yours then just add them in where I put the Chorizo in:
Ingredients –
4 large potatoes / Salt and Pepper / 6 Large Eggs / 1 x Iberico Chorizo Sausage (usually around 60/70g but the amount is up to how much you like in your omelette) in 1cm slices / 1 Onion, finely chopped
What to do –
- Make sure your grill is turned on and getting nice and hot before doing anything
- Then I chop my potatoes into chunks rather than slices, but this is up to you, and then pop them into a saucepan of salted boiling water and simmer them until they are cooked
- I then put the eggs in a bowl and beat them together with a fork and season with salt and pepper
- I like to use a large frying pan, maybe around 20cm, then I put my slices of Chorizo into the frying pan, no need for oil here as the oils from the sausages will release into the pan
- Then the potato and onions go in, cook them altogether and they will start to go nice and golden, then remove from the frying pan and put to one side for just a minute
- I then pour the eggs into the frying pan, before putting the sausages and potatoes back in, make sure it is all spread evenly across the pan (this is why it’s good to use a nice, wide pan)
- Pop the frying pan under the grill, until your omelette is nice and golden on top and cooked through the middle
- Then it’s ready…enjoy! I like to cut mine in to chunks and serve on cocktail sticks like they do at one of my favourite tapas bars in Spain, but you can serve it anyway you like
- I always think this goes down well with some bread, olive oil, and olives. Also, some Serrano ham and Manchego cheese with almonds match this perfectly. Not forgetting your glass of wine….

Read more2015 will be the year many people buy their dream home in the sun, probably on one of the Spanish Costas. The Spanish Banks certainly hope so!!
The early indications from the recognised Spanish Property experts suggests that in some locations the prices have now started to increase, and the availability in some locations also appears to be reducing.
We understand that the hundreds of thousands of available Bank properties have reduced significantly, leaving properties that in some locations, may never sell due to their condition and size. It is good to see that new build projects are on the increase though, especially on Spain’s Southern Costa Blanca, to meet the demand from all over Europe and the rest of the world.
A major factor in the increase in the number of sales is that the Spanish banks are now lending again, although with a criteria akin to how the UK lenders are now offering mortgages. At current rates this is a vehicle that could be factored into any potential buyers funding options. By doing so it effectively brings back to the buyer the availability of choice coupled with the fact that the bank will also do due diligence on the property, so effectively a double check on the property status.
An example of this is a client with £75,000 available to buy their dream home in Spain; they may wish to consider using £50,000 of this therefore retaining £25,000. The client could then borrow 63,000 euro giving them funds (at a rate of 1.27euro/£1) of circa 126,000 euro to use to purchase their property.
By considering the action of taking a mortgage that client has dramatically increased the number of available properties to them, both new and resale, and more importantly the locations they can select their dream home from (providing it’s affordable.) With a smaller budget comes a more limited number of options and potentially not buying, or even worse buying something they don’t really want.
Using a Mortgage broker to obtain the most suitable mortgage for you is possibly a better option as opposed to going direct to a Spanish Bank, as the deals to brokers are coming up daily that may suit a particular buyer.
Currently the Loan to Value or Loan to purchase price (whichever is the lower) mortgages peak at 70% for non-Spanish residents (subject to credit status) with term in some cases up to 30 years or 75 years of age (whichever is the lower.)
The Euribor Rate currently is circa 0.37%, so deals could be available at Euribor plus 1.5% for premium clients, maybe a little higher for others, for an initial period.
As with all financial projects, prospects should take advice from a specialist in the country of purchase. Your Place in Spain Ltd are happy to introduce Mortgage Directa, a Spain based mortgage brokerage.
